Hey All You Timid Drivers and Gephydrophobiacs! China Opens a 22 Mile Bridge!
The fear of driving across bridges is called Gephydrophobia, and the fact that China has just opened a 22 mile bridge in Shanghai should make some sweat and nervous just reading about this new bridge.
From Breitbart- Presented as the "world's longest sea
bridge", the 36-kilometre (22-mile) structure connects Jiaxing city
near Shanghai to the port city of Ningbo in the eastern province of
Zhejiang. It is slightly shorter than the 38.4-kilometre Lake
Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge in the southern United States, which is
often billed as the world's longest. Years ago I recall a Dateline NBC or 20/20 story about a bridge that
had volunteer drivers for those that were too timid to drive this
looooong bridge. I am wondering if there is a bike path, or a running
path for those in Shanghai? Are there any exits, rest stops or turnarounds? Is there a toll? Exact Change only? These are important questions, especially if I am going to drive the bridge some day.
