eBay Executives Remain Silent on Feedback Extortion Scam eBay Sellers are Receiving!!
Auctionbyte's Ina Steiner had received reports of an email scam being sent to eBay sellers extorting money in exchange for positive feedback. If the money is not paid, the letter states, negative feedbacks will be left for the seller, thus affecting their selling status. The scam, first reported on eBay forums by sellers, have mysteriously been removed. Auctionbyte's blog has posts of the extortion emails and reactions from a cross-section of eBay sellers responding to this breaking story.
eBay recently changed its feedback policy so sellers could no longer leave negative feedback for buyers. This new policy has opened a Pandora's box for some sellers, as they are now receiving demands from buyers in order to receive a positive feedback. eBay now informs buyers (when leaving feedback) that sellers can no longer leave negative feedback, so buyers can be honest with no fear of retaliation.
Unlike other spoof or scam eBay emails, these emails are sent from registered eBay buyers who have won auctions from targeted sellers who are then sent the emails, according to the Auctionbytes report.
eBay executives have NOT responded to sellers concerns over what eBay is doing to protect sellers from this extortion scam or why posts concerning the scam have been removed from eBay forums.
