NBC's Dateline Incites Frenzy of Heirs Looking for Missing Money from Relatives!
I had heard about this NBC Dateline segment earlier today, and decided to go to http://www.missingmoney.com/ to see if I had any money coming to me. I put in my last name, and found nothing. But having been adopted by my step father back in the 50's, I knew he had died, and put in his name....JACKPOT....DING..DING..DING...DING. The State of Fla had about 8 accounts listed for Leo, and since my brother and I were his only heirs......the money should be ours...all ours!!! Greed was truly setting in at this point!
The next question was How Much ( the site showed six accounts- with 5 over $100)...and How do I get it...so I went to Florida Site and saw that you can fill out an online claim form. But I wanted to know- HOW MUCH? So I read the information and called the state office telephone number which was listed...and didn't have to hold forever...I gave the info to the CSR, and he said i had about $3000 coming if I could provide the documents. So my wife is off to the safe deposit box to get my birth certificate.....Don't know if I will ever see the money...but when Leo's name popped up...I felt I had won the lottery.... I just wonder why there doesn't appear to be any interest on what is Mine...all mine...
Update: When you fill out the claim form, you are told what you need to claim the funds. I need to get Leo's death certificate, his SS card, or W-2, or Tax Return; then send in a photo ID along with my birth certificate. So I will be calling Dade County today on my hunt for his death certificate.

I looked at the site you suggested, but our state was not listed. I found http://www.unclaimedmoney.net and booyah! This site is awesome and has much more than missingmoney. This really is fun stuff and as I said on another blog, I think I am going to throw an unclaimed money party this weekend for all my friends. Nothing like beer and money mixed together :)
