A little taste of NASCAR hit Times Square, when Brian Vickers and the Red Bull #83 car stopped at the famed intersection for a pit stop. Total time 20.6 seconds! NASCAR staged the event as part of Champions Week!
I don't think that in my lifetime we will ever witness a Major NASCAR sanctioned race featuring electric cars, like the Chevy Volt. But perhaps the introduction of the Volt at Texas Motor Speedway gave us food for thought. Never Say Never? The Volt is the first mass produced plug-in electric car which will be introduced in late 2010. For more info on the intro of the car and NASCAR fans reaction CNN Technology has the story.
Racing Trucks is exciting to watch, but when you get a Pit Road Brawl like the one between David Starr, and Todd Bodine, Fans love it. The fight took place at the NASCAR Craftsman Series race in New Hampshire. Roger Hornaday won the race.
I went to the NASCAR race at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana last year and to say it was hot wouldn't do it justice- we baked in 110 degree weather. In two weeks, I will once again go to the races- and hope that it's a bit cooler. But in 2009, NASCAR has moved the Auto Club Speedway race to October, and its part of the race for the cup.
and Tony Stewart wasn't even racing last Thursday Night. He was watching his driver Tracey Hines in a USAC race at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indiana. The incident occurred when Hines was involved in an accident, and track officials wouldn't let him back. Below is the complete video- Stewart is dressed in blue. Look for a fine from USAC officials for his actions.
Stewart just signed an agreement to co-own his own racing team next year racing #20 for Office Depot....Don't cross Tony Stewart!
According to SI online, Tom Bowles Inside NASCAR column, a press conference is going to held July 23 to announce a one-time sponsorship by presumed Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama and BAM Motors- owner of the #49 car in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series. Sources tell SI, that one option is that for as little as $100, donors could have their name on the car. This appears to be the first time a presidential candidate has given its money to be a primary sponsor of a NASCAR car, even for one race.
The driver of the Toyota which will be Ken Schrader, and of course he will have to have the car qualify in trials to compete. This will be fun to watch as it develops up to race day.... After the NASCAR Race tonite I decided to go to the Coke Zero Web site to see how Coca-Cola was going to handle their drivers not winning......
So I went to the Coke Zero Nascar Website and clicked on the "Click Here to Claim Your Prize at My Coke Rewards.com" Since I already am signed up for MCR- I clicked- and lo and behold- I was offered a Free Coke Zero Coupon for a 20 Ounce Bottle for 0 Points. Then I noticed the Coke Zero Website was offering a free Coke Zero to "Celebrate" the First Coke Zero 400 at Daytona. Originally the promotion called for a free Coke Zero if one of the 13 sponsored Coca-Cola drivers won. If Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, Denny Hamlin, Mark Martin, Greg Biffle, Elliott Sadler, Jamie McMurray, Bobby Labonte, Michael Waltrip, Clint Bowyer, David Ragan or Terry Labonte took the checkered flag....We would have been able to download a Coke Zero coupon. Since Kyle Busch won- I guess Coca-Cola got enough play on Coke Zero to offer it free to consumers- IF- and it's an IF, if they register at My Coke Rewards.com. A great promotion by Coke, Everyone is a winner
