Not to be out done by the Michael Jackson tree stump sighting, the Virgin Mary has "appeared" at a tree stump at Holy Mary Parish Church in Ireland. Though the stump looks like it was cut to resemble a standing Virgin Mary, it is being visited by crowds hoping to save the stump from being removed.

Scientists, and penguin lovers have to be overjoyed after the Waitaha penguin was rediscovered nearly 500 years after it had become extinct. Scientists were doing research on another breed of penguin in New Zealand when they discovered DNA for the Waitaha penguin. According to Fox News - Science:
The team was testing DNA
from the bones of prehistoric modern yellow-eyed penguins for genetic
changes associated with human settlement when it found some bones that
were older — and had different DNA.
the older bones "lead us to describe a new penguin species that became
extinct only a few hundred years ago," the team reported in a paper in
the biological research journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B:
A Female Blacktip Shark in Virginia was found to have fertilized her eggs, without mating, and became pregnant. The discovery was made by analyzing DNA. The self-fertilization process or parthenogenesis— allows females of some species to produce offspring without sperm. The mother shark died during an examination.
