When Houston drivers saw the Mia Gradney billboard, some thought it was for a modeling company, others looked for a 1-800#, but what the soft sell advertisement was doing was selling the Channel 39 News Anchor. Granted its not a typical- Watch Mia Gradney do the News on Channel 39....but its getting traction thru its subtlety and word of mouth.
There are going to be many many stories about Walter Cronkite, so as I was driving home listening to the obit from CBS on the radio...I thought back to Kent State. The killings had just taken place, and students were on the commons, and the Guardsmen told us "Campus was closed, Leave by 5PM". So I grabbed my girlfriend, and her friend, and whatever belongings I could get into my car, and drove home to Cleveland. I didn't know how big and sensational the story of the Kent State shootings were...until at my Mom's house, we turned on the CBS Network News, and the lead story from Walter Cronkite was the shootings at Kent State. That day, and really that broadcast had a significant effect on my life. He was a true pioneer in broadcasting, and as I said on Buzzfeed, a whole generation will miss him.
Am I watching Tunnelvision? Former CNN anchor Bobbie Battista, amost credible face in News Anchor history and one of the most searched personalities on the Internet has joined Onion News Network as Evening News Anchor, giving the satirical web site's TV reports added credibility.
This just in. Jimmy Fallon used the ONN story as his opening monlogue joke, thinking that because Bobbie Battista was anchoring, the story was real.....Link
Looks like Fox 13 Morning Anchor had a fight with the pavement.
What's interesting about this story, its from a competing Tampa TV station- WFTS. I wouldn't call it gloating- but there is no professional courtesy so-to-speak. Anchor Russell Rhodes wouldn't stop his car when asked, in an underground garage, when an off-duty sheriff saw him driving recklessly. Let's just say he finally stopped, and was arrested....after the fight with the pavement. Rhodes may have DUI charges filed against him. (photo on right is from Fox 13 website)
You may notice that Fox 13's report was very to-the-point, compared to that of the ABC Tampa station.
One would think that having a successful program on a major news channel for 12 years would be the epitome of happiness. Not for Alan Colmes, one half of the Fox News Hannity and Colmes cable news program. Alan will be leaving the show, but will still provide his liberal commentary for Fox News Channel, and continue to host his daily Fox Radio talk show.
From Broadcasting & Cable Magazine from Alan Colmes: “I approached [FNC’s Senior Vice President of Programming] Bill Shine
earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop
new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network,”
Colmes said, announcing the move. “Although it’s bittersweet to leave
one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean
[Hannity] and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night
after night for so many years.”
The speculation is now on, as to who will replace the longtime left-wing fixture on the conservative news network, But Huffington Post is reporting that Sean Hannity may become the sole host.
My first thoughts were that Sean Hannity recently signed a big money deal with Fox News, and perhaps Alan wanted his fair share. or perhaps he really did just want to "move on"!
LA Observed has the story that Mike Penner, a Los Angeles Times Sports writer who had a sex change operation about 18 months ago and became Christine Daniels is returning to the LA Times. As Mike Penner! No further details other than the LA Observed story for now. According to the story, all blog pieces by Christine Daniels on the LA Times Web Site have been removed.
Hackers replaced a video of Shiite cleric Ayatollah al-Sistani answering questions for the faithful with a Video of Bill Maher "analyzing" the web site. Let's just say that the Shiite Muslim group for the influential cleric was not too happy about the hack- and probably the choice of Bill Maher pissed them off even more. The hackers that admitted the "prank" were Group XP
The world can rejoice- the taboo is broken- Someone mentioned Sarah Palin's Tits on Fox News. Buzzfeed has picked up the story, and the world is running with it. Way to go-Buzzfeed! What's the next taboo to be broken. Caroline Baum is the taboo breaker- and though there is no Wikipedia listing yet...this action by her will make her a b category trivia question forever.
Sad Sad News for the teenage set. After 10 years- MTV is cancelling retiring cancelling TRL from its schedule according to Variety.com Total Request Live debuted Sept. 14, 1998 with Carson Daly as host, and was a mainstay of the MTV afternoon lineup.
According to Variety: The musicvid countdown show will depart in mid-November with a two-hour
Saturday-afteroon special. Its departure will coincide with the return
of another musicvid-themed show, “Feedback New MTV” (“FNMTV”), which
channel officials say is drawing more interest from viewers and music
labels at his point.
Once again, its all about ratings, advertising dollars, and profit. I asked my daughter (19) who grew up with TRL how she felt...and she said "Dad, Don't Bother Me!- Get Out of My Room, Please" RIP-TRL- Variety
