It's okay for NHL players to fight on the ice, but when it comes to husband Stan Drasky, pulling wife Marta's hair, and throwing to the ground at the United Center during the Chicago/Vancouver game....the police took notice. They arrested Stan, but Marta wasn't happy about that, and got physical about that. You know the rest of the story...they missed the Blackhawks winning 2-1.
Sports by Brooks brings us another DUH! moment in the world of sports. Brooks has posted that NHL Washington Capital's Ice Girl Sarah on her profile on the Capitols web site, names her favorite book as:
Sports by Brooks does it again. In a paraplegic hockey game between USA and Canada, a fight broke out, and officials, didn't really know how to handle it. Should you feel guilty watching this fight...not really. It's great to see this type of sports event for those who are disabled, and love the competition of hockey.
Years ago Roland Stewart was known as the Rainbow Man- He had an afro hair style in rainbow colors- and he was at major sports events with his John 3:16 signs- But he got arrested and is serving time in jail
But You know the type of fan Cameron Hughes is, he is the loud, obnoxiously dressed for the home team, that draws major attention to himself in arenas, and stadiums nationwide. The truth be known is that major and minor league professional sports team pay Hughes a fee of 2 Grand to show up and be the superfan hired by team management to stir the crowd up for more of that team spirit. Hughes may act drunk, but the only thing he does prior to games is down 3 red bulls to excite himself. Yessirree! In the Conde Nast Portfolio article it was revealed he has worked MLB's Dodgers, Bluejays; NBA's Lakers and Hornets; and the NHL's Senators and Maple Leafs. But not all is big time sports, Hughes works 80-90 minor league games a year, drawing an income well into the six figures. Move Over San Diego Chicken! One may question why such big name teams need a Superfan at all?
The Fantasy Sports industry is a billion dollar industry, and a court case between Major League Baseball against CBC Distribution and Marketing Inc of St. Louis could set a precedent that will put a dent in the sports competitions. Once again, the rights to the names of players, and their stats are basis of an intellectual property suit, and Major League Baseball believes that Fantasy Baseball Leagues should pay licensing rights for the use of Players Names, Teams, and Stats. CBC has already won 2 lower court cases, that is why MLB is appealing it to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Major companies already pay a licensing fee, but its the smaller companies that will be hurt. Remember when Major League Sports went after Bar owners....we all know what happened to them. If you want public performance rights- You Pay. The outcome will affect millions in all Fantasy Sports Leagues.
While critics are panning the All-You-Can-Eat sections for Professional Sports games, as contributing to the nation's obesity problems, the NHL, NBA, and MLB teams continue to add sections for pro games that allow fans in low selling sections to eat all the hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn, and soda they can. The only Pro sports league mentioned in the the MSNBC article of not going to the all-you-can-eat concept is the NFL except for the Houston Texans, who last year opened the 500-seat Director's Club, offering unlimited food and drinks. Memberships for the 2009 season cost $1,250.
Personally, I don't gouge at pro sports games, you feel like crap on the way home, and the next day.

First off- Richard Zednik is out of surgery and stable according to web reports. But this is a freaky accident- Zednick was behind teammate Olli Jokinen, when hewas upended by Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur during the third period. Jokinen's skate slit Zednick's throat. I don't think I have ever heard or seen a hockey accident like this. Here is the Buffalo News Story followed by the YouTube Video .
If you have ever attended a live sports event, you know the zealous fans from regular fans- they show their team spirit most of the time. Some got in trouble, others just got famous for a few minutes then...and if you click on the link from Mental Floss.com- a few minutes more. The Jesus 3:16 Guy in the Picture is serving 3 consecutive life terms in prison- but the Networks loved him at sports events!
